ON JANUARY 30, 20178:49 PMIN MUSICCOMMENTS By Imanuel Jannah ABUJA – After months of leadership tussle and factionalism rocking the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), peace is about to return to the troubled association, as the union’s National Caretaker Committee, NCC, has said all is set for a national delegates’ conference and fresh election that will usher in a new leadership to pilot the affairs of the association. Secretary to National Caretaker Committee of the union, Adeola Ogunmola, told Vanguard, yesterday, that the decision to hold the election in Abuja on Tuesday was in line with the mandate given to the committee by the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Sen. Chris Ngige, last July, to work with officials of the ministry to resolve the leadership crisis rocking the union and ensure the output of the music industry is formally added to the gross domestic product (GDP) of the nation.
According to her, the guidelines for the election would be made known after the delegates’ conference scheduled to hold before the election proper. She also revealed that all the factions in the union have collapsed into one body and have been cooperating with both the committee and officials of the ministry. “The Minister of Labour and Productivity, Sen. Chris Ngige was disturbed by the perennial crises of leadership that have rocked PMAN, and denied the federal government the ability properly work with the musicians themselves to determine the contribution of the music industry into the annual GDP of the Nation since Nigerian music have been rated one of the best in the world today. “So, he called us into a caretaker committee with some officials of the ministry to do all that lies in our powers to put to rest the leadership crises. And, that’s why we are set to hold the general election. “The general election will hold after a National Delegates Conference on Tuesday 31st January, 2017”
